Mitchelville Panel Discussion
On March 3, 2023 at 2:00pm, Lean Ensemble Theater hosted a discussion before rehearsals began for the first production ever of Aurin Squire’s Mitchelville.
This play is a special event for Lean Ensemble for several reasons: it was commissioned; it honors local history and culture, and its world premiere will take place in our community. For these reasons, Lean Ensemble wants to ensure that the meaning and value of the play as art, and importantly the tribute it pays to the Native Islanders, descendants of the historic Mitchelville town, is widely known and appreciated in our community. The Focus Group will be a public event that will bring Native Island leaders & members of the Historic Mitchelville Freedom Park together with members of the production team of Mitchelville for a conversation in advance of the play’s world premiere in March, 2023.
